  1. As per usual, improving my skills impacted the way I performed and participated. Improving skills and sense of achievement are related in some way because every time I improve my skills it always gives me that sense of achievement and proves that hard work pays off in the end. Now in this unit of volleyball I didn't just improve my volleyball skills but also my interpersonal skills. See when someone improves their skills it gives them joy and courage to keep going because it happened to me and many of my teammates. I improved on many occasions not only were my communication skills enhanced but also my leadership skills. I took Amy, Cody and Michael under my wing many-a times whether it was to help them improve their bumps, sets or/and spikes. Or maybe I helped them in a way that made them feel like they belonged by giving them words of encouragement. Their gain was my gain because they helped me improve my sportsmanship and leadership skills. “I demonstrated this skill with Michael. He had attempted to set the ball but the set was too low or too far out and did not have enough height making it hard to get the ball back over. So I told him to position his arms in a way that would make his set high but comfortable for him too.”

  2. A factor I chose to write about is pushes body to physical and/or mental limit. I think this factor applied more to my mental limit than the physical limit. When I started this unit I was not confident in volleyball and just playing a friendly game in class was out of my comfort zone. Once we had gotten into our teams and started doing team training my team members would always help me get the confidence to go out of my comfort zone and try new skills. I think I definitely pushed my body and mind close to its limit, but as I progressed through the unit, my comfort zone expanded as I got more and more confident with who I was working with and the skills I was using. I think my team members also played a big part in expanding my comfort zone, mainly Ebony, Hawk and Blaze. They all taught me new skills and gave me reassurance that it was okay to fail and with more practice I got better and better. A sentence from my diaries that showed me pushing myself to my mental limit is “The first few sets I did weren’t that great and I wasn’t very confident. He started giving me small things to adjust, like getting it closer to the net, or higher, or getting under the ball faster. I first watched him set and then I would try my best to apply the skills he had taught me. I think that once I got it right and did a few good sets, it was obvious by the happiness from both of us that we had more motivation to keep going and keep getting better.”

  3. Sense of achievement. I always try my best when it comes to volleyball. I always enjoy this sport and I am always willing to lend a hand to help teach another student from our PHE class like Amy. Amy was one of the newbies to volleyball and I worked with her for the majority of the volleyball unit. Working with her always gave me the sense of achievement because when I saw her improve it always made me feel like I really helped her and she always looked like she was having a good time. “We always made sure to call for the ball and Amy always made sure to ask me for help if she needed it.” - 17/05 Interpersonal Skills Reflection #2.
