Now that we have completed our Renegade Hockey unit which you all participated so vigorously in, I would like you to:
1. Choose a paragraph from your My Active Lifestyle to post. Ensure you have edited it, correcting all punctuation and spelling errors (see my feedback/feed forward) BEFORE posting.

2. Over the next week I would like you to comment upon the posts of three classmates.

  2. Social factors influenced my participation because I need to get out of my comfort zone and work with other students outside of my friend group. I find working with my friends can be quite distracting and restricts me from learning from more people. Although working with friends can be awesome I found that working with people such as Aisha,Jocelyn and Vanya helped me exceed further accomplishments. Not only do I get more involved and out of my comfort zone I make new friends and have another reliable partner to learn from.

    1. Kia ora ocean. From reading your reflection I understand that you are starting to push boundaries and really use social factors as a way to improve your social abilities, although you must have great social abilities within your friend group I like seeing you use some of those social factors towards your own achievement. keep up the good work.

    2. Kia Ora Ocean, I couldn't agree enough to this reflection about Social Factors. We've always been the ones to just gossip and talk about our days, but I'm glad we're both able to partner with other people without packing a sad anymore. Wish you nothing but the best with our next units to come.

    4. Kia ora Ocean, I really enjoyed reading your reflection on social facotrs and from reading this I now know that you are ambitious and the type of person that doesn't let fear stop you. I also really like that you identified your barriers for learning and that you actually changed how you use to be during lessons which is a really great feature about you. You are determined and will thrive for extraordinary results.

    5. Kia ora Ocean. After closely examining your reflection, I've been able to gain a complex understanding of your character within PE. You strive only for the best and can never settle for less. Leaving your comfort zone is a difficult task to perform as you're opening yourself up to new things. You're beginning to test yourself and increase the vastness of your exploration. Overall, keep involving yourself in activities that require you to leave your comfort zone and never be afraid to try new things. Kia ora!

  3. Social Factors: This factor played a significant role in my participation, contributing largely to my overall success in this unit. Cooperating with other people allows me to experience how different individuals approach a similar goal- this interaction enables people to share their perspective on a situation, leading to an elevated level of understanding within the class, and preempting a higher sense achievement. This class awareness leads to greater cooperation, with the sharing of ideas becoming an encouraged habit to stimulate peer coaching and subsequently develop confidence. This confidence then pushes students to exceed their limits- motivated by my peers, I have been able to more effectively progress with the development of my abilities throughout the Renegade Hockey unit. We began this unit for jump start in 2021, integrating the concept of peer coaching into our learning from the beginning- since then, I have been able to work with the range of people within my class, who have all contributed their unique perspectives towards my improvement, largely influencing my participation and achievement throughout the unit. I feel that the social element of our learning in Physical Education has led to a greater sense of community and achievement as a group: when one of us achieves, the rest of us are aware that we had a role in helping them hone their skills, and subsequently helping them clear their path to success. Our accomplishments become proof of others' own achievements. When I work with different people, their motivation towards their learning is what encourages me to achieve higher. Taking risks with your learning opens far more opportunities for success than remaining within your comfort zone- these risks include associating with other people, contributing your opinion without fear of reprimand and asking questions. All these things are enabled by the positive learning environment our class has created through the emphasis placed on the importance of social factors to your learning. I can say that since being in this PE class, I have begun to partake in sports that I had previously steered clear from. I believe that says a lot about the impact the class environment is having on me. All in all, this factor influenced my participation because it pushed me to strive above and beyond my current capabilities, motivated and encouraged by the people around me.

  4. Well - being was an important factor for how I participated in Renegade Hockey this year. I was mentally challenged with the idea of being absolutely perfect and not making a mistake and if I did I would tell myself everyone was angry at me. Because of this feeling I would care less about trying in our next lesson. This was a usual procedure for myself, until I decided I had enough of it so I changed right as I entered Level 1 PE. Since then there’s been a huge change with how I participate. I was proudly rating myself consistent 5/5 for effort in our lessons, and I felt it was appropriate because I did not hesitate nor think twice about my rating. I was also more engaged and truly having fun rather than saying it and not meaning it. I have now made an oath to never worry about what others think, because my well-being is important for my achievements I can make in this class.

    1. Hey Jacque, Your a great partner to work with because your always motivating and inspiring your peers to do the best they can! I too can relate to having a mindset where I set expectations for others rather myself, It's a everyday challenge and while reading your paragraph made me feel confident that I can overcome my challenges just like you. I agree that you participate with a 5/5 effort because your always complimenting students within the class, contributing as a leader and always giving it your all Chur Ocean <3

    2. Hi Jacque, I really enjoyed reading your reflection. it doesn't only tell us how far you are willing to go in Level 1 PHE but it also shows past actions that you yourself identified and wanted to change. You have come so far this year and I have noticed many qualities you have as in you show great spirit, enjoyment in the lessons set, responsibility, you communicate with your peers which is an outstanding quality you have and you don't give up even at the toughest hour. I look forward to seeing other hidden qualities you have. :)

  5. Fun and enjoyment had a positive influence on my participation and effort. During Renegade hockey I have found it struggling to mix with the class as at the time this was my first time operating in a level 1 P.E class. I found when I got to know these people and work with them more I had more fun. I have more fun when more people participate and their level of skill is transferred onto practicals and when I can work well with them. With this class the students are looking to achieve so they participate to a high standard. This allows me to enjoy more and it improves my social and physical performance. Having a class that actually wants to be there really does influence my overall enjoyment and participation. Knowing that I can enjoy my time in class has positively impacted my participation and engagement and my willingness to achieve and help others. Overall I find when I am enjoying an activity my engagement is better causing me to participate well and it positively impacts the amount of effort I put in. Enjoyment is an aspect that draws me to the activity so the fun I had working with others and playing this new activity caused my participation to improve along with my engagement and effort.

    1. Kia Ora Aisha, your reflection demonstrates your ability to relate the factors that influence your learning to one another. When reading your reflection, I can clearly see the development of your mindset throughout the unit, and how your participation changed as time went on. It is also clearly portrayed how your participation is influenced by attitude, and I admire your ability to recognise this and act upon it, leading to your overall improvement.

    2. Kia ora Aisha. From reading your reflection I can see how fun and enjoyments influenced your participation. I loved working with you because it broke barriers and we got to know each other more. I love how you started to open up more when you could see your peers wanting to participate and learn as much as you do. Your participation has also helped influence my participation as well. You also mentioned things that you have noticed throughout the year like other skill sets, participation and effort. A great feature about you is that you enjoy yourself even more when you see others participating and giving the same amount of effort you are. I hope I get to see how much you have improved by the end of the year.

  6. Throughout this unit I have discovered fun/enjoyment and how it has impacted my participation. I rarely referred my reflections towards fun/enjoyment because I am too determined to learn and am always looking to expand my maximum capacity of potential. However renegade hockey has to be the first unit of physical education where I felt that sense of enjoyment/fun. With being set in a new environment with new people it has opened a side of myself where I can express the sense of enjoyment in a way where people feel the same. I enjoyed the learning, the practical and the theory of this unit and I have never felt enjoyment for all three concepts at once before in my life.

Fun/enjoyment has brought me a closer connection to my peers especially with Lilly, Ethan, Aisha and Ryan even though Ryan only had two lessons with us. I can assure you that I upheld the values of Manaakitanga strongly especially in situations where I would accidentally cause injuries to the legs of my fellow peers. However, I would always make sure they were still having fun with those injuries showing sympathy and empathy for both them and their injuries.

    3. Kia Ora Jocelyn, first time seeing such a small paragraph from you. But in the two small paragraphs you've explained Fun and enjoyment very well and how it has influenced your training. In the past, you were one to always be on the serious side of sports, but I would agree with your statement that you had fun because I witnessed it myself. I can also proudly say I've never been hit in the legs by you because I make sure I'm either on the same team, if I wasn't then I'd stay well away from you.

  7. The reason why pushing my body to my mental limit influenced my participation is that I have been pushing myself hard to get all the steps right in renegade hockey. Although it is actually challenging as well, I push myself for better results each hockey lesson as it was very challenging for me at first but never gave up and pushed harder. (Why) because this sport is very physical and yet very brutal as well, I try to keep my legs away from the ball as far as possible to never get bruises or severely injured. Renegade hockey has a lot of hazards to be careful of and involves a lot of movement and running. Yet I am not perfect but always try my hardest to create space or try to score and defend. I have learnt a lot in this sport as it is very fun as well (except by getting shinned by the stick) but overall pushing myself to my limit gave me my own positive feedback. The person I was inspired by to push myself is Lily because she’s very talented and I’ve learnt a lot from her as well as the rest of the people that have helped me out on my renegade hockey journey. I am very proud of myself for making it this far and will always push myself for the best results possible. I am very physical as well because I intend to put my whole body on the line and get a bit too rough to others. But at least no one got hurt in the process.

  8. Having fun and enjoying myself had a really big impact on me. I Have to be brutally honest this sport is more dangerous than rugby. But overall I have enjoyed my time during this activity. (why) The reason why I had fun and enjoyed myself is that I liked how I was setting great examples for my peer coaching. As I had fun with Ryan giving him good feedback on his improvements and success during his 1 lesson and he is already a pro. I like enjoying myself out there and getting involved in this activity. I like to enjoy how we strategise as a team and give everyone a go at what position they wanna take. Also I like how fun the game is overall especially with 2 balls which makes it confusing yet fun. The other thing is that my team/ classmates have created a bond with each other and are having fun and enjoying themselves during the match. I also am having fun giving positive feedback to people and teaching them things I know, such as the flick , the trap and all other sorts. But overall I enjoyed my time and had fun

  9. Improving skills
Improving skills had the biggest impact on me. I have made a lot of improvements on technique. The reason why is because of my feedback given from my classmates or peers, it gives me a lot of ideas on how to improve my performance during Renegade Hockey. If I made a mistake I would still strive to get my personal achievement during my lessons. In our peers I was getting taught a variety of different techniques and settings, such as the trap, flick , dribble and even more. The most common thing I was lacking was my feet when I went in for a tackle or if I had the ball, because I always keep my legs too close to the ball and that way I could get severely injured. I learnt the hard way and got a few bruises. I now know how to control the ball properly and keep my knees low and legs away from the ball. The other thing that I enjoyed was my commitment to this as it is really fun physically. I find this game really appealing because it is different to regular hockey and I really like enjoying our class and teamwork

  11. PEER COACHING, With the small amount of time I had to play Renegade Hockey, I felt that this factor helped me alot because I only had two lessons. When I showed up to training I was paired with Jocelyn and she explained and taught me the basics of the game so It was so easy to understand and put into action. She taught me first how to grip the stick saying “ The lower you grip on the stick the more control you have”. She then went on to teach me how to trap the ball as we were passing back and forth. Although I spent a limited amount of time learning this game I found I actually really enjoyed it especially playing goalkeeper. I also found that having a peer coach really helped me to pick up the game faster so I could later on join in and have fun playing with the class!

During Renegade hockey I have found it really difficult to mix with the class as at the time this was my first time in a level 1 P.E class. I like how their level of skill is shown throughout the lessons because I get to see how much they are improving. With this class the students are looking to achieve at their best so they participate to a high standard. This lets me enjoy more and it improves my social and physical performance. 14. At the heart of all sports is the “social factor.” All sports require a variety of individuals to all operate as a team on and off the court/field/pool. The concept of a team builds a sense of community and enables each member to perform to a higher level, mentally and physically. We become localized with our peers to build this bond or trust that is necessary to achieving victory. The pros of this factor is it can be utilised in and out of PE. I personally use Renegade Hockey to exercise my social abilities to develop confidence when communicating with my peers. Socializing enabled me to leave my comfort zone and explore the variety of characters and people the world has to offer. Hence, the social factor is the most important factor within PE and has proven to be on many occasions. I’ve become an example of why this factor is claimed “supreme” in my opinion which is why I heavily believe it. How does this relate to Renegade Hockey? I loved communicating with my peers during Renegade Hockey. The action of such increased my level of participation and enjoyment during lessons. Each factor I mentioned earlier helped me to participate and socialize more within my team. I was given the opportunity to work with people I’ve never worked with before such as Hemi and Varron. Overall I think this factor is very important and has heavily impacted my participation and level of effort positively.

You are honest and direct which is why you're such an exceptional peer coacher. You've coached me on multiple occasions in the past and I enjoyed every bit of it. 17. Fun and Enjoyment/Social factors:
Fun and enjoyment and social factors were two key aspects in my time doing renegade hockey. Playing in a supportive team made the lessons much more enjoyable and positive. Positive games led to lots of encouragement and confidence throughout the lessons. Fun and enjoyment made me up my game by encouraging me to put more effort and participation into every game. I feel asif when the games are more intense and everyone is participating to their highest level, is when the games are most enjoyable. I also enjoyed getting to know my peers better and although people were hit around the ankles or even on the head, they were still ok and games continued to be enjoyed. Whaea Ruth’s way of peer coaching helped me alot because instead of being explained once in a big group I could go off with a peer I knew well and could understand on a deeper level. Example: Mane 22 Nov 2021, Today I would give myself a 3/5 for effort and participation in this training because I didn't try my hardest whereas I know I can do much better. Skill(s) I worked on improving were defending and being able to move the ball while controlling it. I worked on improving my defending skills and movements with the ball. I also worked on improving how to move and hold my renegade hockey stick properly. Today I helped Lily. I helped her by giving her tips on how she can improve certain things, like how to hold my stick properly ect. Someone who helped me learn how to also improve my skills and gave me tips on how to improve things I was doing wrong, was Lilly. It was challenging to control the ball at first because the ball was uneven, well not perfectly round and smooth, so it was a lot harder to control the ball. Something I really enjoyed was getting to be a buddy with Lilly because she was very supportive and helpful.

  18. Challenge
I found it challenging to learn and use the techniques of renegade hockey. Hemi helped me learn the skills of renegade hockey so I was prepared to participate in the game. Peer coaching with Jacque helped me understand the tactics of when to use the flick and where to aim although I personally didn't use the flick myself it helped me predict and come up with counter measures when others used it. Some of the most challenging parts were using the stick on my left side and getting used to playing the game with four goals and two balls. The challenge positively affected my participation because when I did it I felt more confident and participated to a higher level.

Although you may of had a bit of a challenge with some of the techniques, you have shown that you were able to learn and perform these techniques in a short amount of time and for that I applaud you. Its also a great thing that you were challenged by the fact that there were two balls and four goals, because you had to be very vigilant.
      Great work, keep it up!!!

  20. Challenge - Learning new rules and skills in a short period and stepping outside my comfort zone were both challenges I faced while playing renegade hockey. I had to take a step back because of these difficulties. The fact that my class and I learnt a particular number of skills in such a short period of time demonstrated to us that we were capable of change and

Improving skills - The most significant impact on me was the improvement in my skills. The reason for this is that the feedback I received from my classmates provided me with a way to better my performance while playing renegade hockey. Even if I made a mistake, I would still work hard in class to reach my personal goals. I learned a variety of different methods and skills from my friends which helped me perform my best.

At the start of the year most of us can agree that it was hard to learn a sport we had no experience in. This shows you can take on any challenge and turn the negatives into positives. while keeping your participation toward the game up. Well done.

  22. (Sense of achievement)
Sense of achievement is just like a massive mind game. When I was younger someone once told me “whether you think you can do it or you cannot, you are right.” This to me is a MASSIVE statement in my eyes, it just shows that if I were to put my mind on something, set a goal, and strive for it. I can accomplish the unspeakable, whatever that may be, most of the time anyway. But this can actually go two ways. Like if you can’t perfect a certain skill or technique, sometimes it can get to my head, and that can sometimes make my performance a bit off.
I think that I had shown this factor (Sense Of Achievement) when I was learning new skills and techniques in renegade hockey. The fact that I was able to pick up on most of the skills quite fast, was reassuring for me in a way. And I think that so many of my other classmates can relate to this as well. Sense of achievement is just a way that me as an individual and many other people all look at and think, “I just did that.” And to me, it's just a massive confidence boost.

  23. Improving skills has had a significant influence on my participation as it is generally satisfying to see better results in terms of my skills. Naming a skill I do well in is assigning positions, also observing my team and the other team. I like to give certain people specific rules that fit their gameplay more to make them feel more confident in themselves which leads to a better performance from experience. For example, Wati, I put him in a more defensive role like goalie because of his reaction speed and ability to perform the tackle with less hesitation than others, and Ocean, I put her in the center because I saw her become overwhelmed when she’d be defending the ball. Paying attention is the great quality I have and taking advantage of it brings us one step closer to an easier win. Improving skills aren't just for in-game skills. I see it as a general skill such as communication, leadership and self-confidence. Seeing everything come together in the team makes me happy and overall makes my participation higher.

    1. Hi Varren, the way you can see other people's strengths and use these for your teams advantage and to make the game more enjoyable for everyone is an amazing skill. It shows your observation skills and your leadership skills. Well done.

The way that you are able to look at someone and see their strengths is awesome. This shows that you contribute to your team majorly. This is also something that you can take into many team sports, whatever that sport might be. Keep doing what you are doing because your doing a great job!!
