We have witnessed your awesome demonstrations  of IP skills in your Volleyball trainings and games. We know you have noted the impact you are all having on others too having read your diary reflections.
1. Now, we want you to choose your best, most carefully edited reflection from either your diary or today's entry and post it here to share with your classmates.
2. Over the next week we expect you to respond to three classmates.

  1. I demonstrated my Inclusiveness skill with Jocelyn, Capri and Olivia. I did this when we were doing our perfection drills when I changed up the pairings so that we were all with different people then we were used to this including everyone in the drills. I would give more of my effort to make sure they're well included and also talking and pushing them forward to make them give more effort and try harder because they are a little out of their comfort zone but still participating.

This has a positive impact on Olivia and Jocelyn because they were trying harder and beginning to improve their sets and bumps while also calling and trying to include others. This also impacted the team because the team saw their improvement and inclusiveness in the team and knew that if they gave their all they could improve as much as their teammates did too.

I Should be more inclusive towards not only the people who are shy but also help include the people who are improving by setting or just sending the ball in their direction in a game environment. This helps them to use their newly learnt or improved skills.

    2. Kia ora Ryan, I really enjoyed reading how much you pay attention to your teams progress aswell as your own in Volleyball. I also liked how you noticed when someone feels uncomfortable or out of their comfort zone and that you are willing to help them get through it. You put other peoples feelings before your own which can sometimes be heavy but it is a action that can help people more than you know. In this blog post you don't mention your energy, how hyped you are in the lesson and how much that makes your surroundings feel. Or how you give compliments on the little things. But besides that you are doing Tino Pai! in Volley ball and I can't wait to see more from you Ryan.

    4. Kia Ora Ryan. Looking at your blog and carefully reading it shows me that you as a player has a very positive impact on everyone on your team. It is awesome that you notice when someone is feeling uncomfortable and that you are willing to help them. Can't wait to see more blogs from you Ryan.

  2. I demonstrated these skills to Hane and it was my first time teaching/ coaching someone.I told him to show me what he has already been taught and he was pretty good. But was sort of letting himself down a bit so I gave him a heads up and said to always keep your elbows just above your head and hands right on top of your forehead. I was just watching him get it done until he had fully mastered the setting. And then we got into spiking drills and Varryn was coaching me. He gave me a quick drill to keep my left elbow over my head while in the air but learnt it step by step. He told me to just hit the ball onto the wall with my palm to gain more power into my spiking. And then we got into the actual drill and actually hit my first spike ever.

    3. After learning a skill, I liked to pass on that knowledge to another person who needed it. And you shouldn't look down on yourself, as I've noticed your improvements, and you're a great student

  3. Who I demonstrated my IP skill(s) with and how. I mostly demonstrated my IP skill (supporting and encouraging) with Razor because he needed a lot of help. I helped Razor with his setting and moving to the ball more quickly. I encouraged him to try again after failing before and do it again. I gave him feedback on his setting skills which was good, but I gave him feedback for moving to the ball more quickly.
The impact my demonstration of IP skill(s) had on them (and others) was great because Razor quickly improved and his setting and moving to the ball got better. After seeing him improve quickly I knew that I efficiently demonstrated my IP skills towards him because of how I encouraged him, supported him and gave him feedback and feedforward.

  4. Encouraging others. Getting out of their comfort zone is the first thing towards growth as a person and the way I can support my teammates is by giving my teammates small comments after a point like “don’t worry about that point and focus on what’s going to happen next” because they’d only beat themselves up about it, I’d know because personally I do that alot and it’s not a good trait to have. People who still need a bit more of a boost out of that small shell of theirs is Ovilia and Hane but I see great improvement compared to the first lesson we had.
A teammate who will drastically be affected by supporting and encouraging others is Hane. Hane is a quiet person who won’t usually shout and is a little self conscious but I have seen changes happening slowly. After he got an impressive spike his face lit up with excitement, the same excitement that you see when someone overcomes something big. I think if I coached him with things he needs to work on, he’ll become a huge asset to the team which will build his confidence in participation.

    3. Kia Ora Varren. It is amazing to see how observant and aware you are of your other teammates especially as a coach. I agree Hane was very enclosed in the beginning but with the help of you he has definitely opened up a lot more. It's also great to see your determination to make him even better. I'm super excited to see him evolve and yourself evolve as a coach. Keep up the great work Varren :))

  5. I implemented inclusiveness, effective communication and giving/receiving feedback/feed forward when working with Sophie today. I was able to develop a positive team culture by consistently praising Sophie whenever she made a good set or forearm pass. In doing so, it developed a high sense of confidence within her which subsequently enhanced her performance. She became eager to get the ball. After today Sophie was able to successfully perform setting the ball and receiving the ball masterfully. Sophie now continues to show high levels of dedication and passion towards contributing to the team. By including her more often, demonstrating effective communication towards her and actively giving/receiving feedback/feedforward, she’s well on her way to meeting the standard and becoming a good volleyball player.

  6. I felt like I was very inclusive when it came to a three person peer up because I made sure I made them feel like they were achieving something, That they weren't left out when it came to the ball and that I wasn’t looking all bored and dumbfounded because they couldn’t do a certain thing properly because that's just what learnings about in my opinion. Who I demonstrated my IP skill(s) with was Jacque. She is the Coach of Hot Wheels and what I really love about working with her to improve is her confidence and support. She will find every positive thing about what you're doing if it's a set or a receive. But what really makes my day is when I walk in energized ready and set for the lesson I get the same energy, the same vibe from Jaque and that is what I ABSOLUTELY LOVE about her. But she doesn't only support what i'm doing she could be looking at anyone and give feedforward she's so just so being her.

    1. Hi Capri. You are very observant in our classes and can pick out when someone needs a little extra support. You have taken the information given to you and implemented it, whilst also using that knowledge to coach others. Your growth mindset is seen in this paragraph in your statements about learning and improvement. You are positive and strive to achieve the best for yourself and others, delighting in the success of other people.

    2. Kia ora Capri (te kuini o te court). Your improvement in Volleyball is by far one of the greatest improvements I've seen. I liked working with you in the three peer coaching session and you did have a sense of motivation on me when you gave me feedback and feedforward on what I could do to improve, demonstrating inclusiveness AND effective communication. You identify what your interpersonal skills are and how they impact upon others and you show great detail. :) KEEP IT UP!

  7. I demonstrated effective communication with Wati. I had a talk with Wati about setting him a challenge. That challenge was to try and keep his hands off his hips as much as possible. To me, having your hands on your hips is a sign of disinterest and not feeling motivated and knowing he hadn’t been to school for our first few classes that he could’ve been feeling some way. So setting this challenge I felt was gonna get him a bit more involved. Overall Wati’s attention span was a lot higher and he was more involved and present in our games. He started off attacking the ball quite slowly to actually being on his toes and watching the ball at all times. I also saw him make a couple saves and it seemed as though he wasn’t under so much pressure anymore.

    1. Kia ora Jacque, from your reflection I can see that you are very good at making observations and you can see specific things that your peers could improve on. By reading your reflection I can see that you were not only demonstrating effective communication with Wati but you were also giving him feedforward. It is clear through your reflection that you had a big impact on Wati's participation and positively affected his willingness to be involved.

  8. I demonstrated my FB/FD with Iziah like when he was not fast enough to get under the ball to pass it back i would tell him to move his feet faster to get under the ball. When the ball kept on going through his hands i would show him how to put his has on the ball so it doesn't go through his hand and he would be able to pass it out,

  9. Today I would give myself a 4/5 for effort and participation in this team training because I feel as if I’ve been progressing further with my training and the improvement of my skills.

IP Skill(s) I demonstrated was/were effective listening and cooperation

Who I demonstrated my IP skill(s) with and how
I demonstrated these IP skills with my coach Varren by listening to him and following his instructions on how to perform a proper spike from the placement of the feet on the jump to the timing and finally the spike.
The impact my demonstration of IP skill(s) had on them was
I feel like my demonstration of my IP skills had a positive impact on Varren with him helping me improve. I feel like he may have gained helpers high and therefore boosting his morale as well.

  10. IP Skill(s) I demonstrated was effective communication and inclusiveness. I think that I demonstrated these two IP skills well because even though I’m not very confident with volleyball skills, I gave it a try and participated to a high level and to the best of my ability. I tried to give feedback/feedforward with my teammates which was using effective communication. I also think that I demonstrated inclusiveness well because I tried to give my teammates positive comments when they did a skill really well and tried to include everyone by making them want to basically include themselves by giving them good feedback. This to me means a lot because I know how much a positive comment can make my participation increase and how it makes me want to give everything a go even if I’m not confident in a certain skill, while effectively communicating in a positive team culture. Using effective communication with/towards my teammates helped me and my teammates to know things like who's getting the ball or who's setting it to who.

The impact my demonstration of IP skill(s) had on them (and others) was when I participated at a higher level because everyone was more involved and the positive team culture slowly grew in the team. I think when I participate more and try my hardest in the PE lessons, my classmates are able to feel more comfortable to give everything a go. When my participation levels are high my teammates also increase their participation levels and everyone becomes involved.

    1. Kia ora Sophie, from your reflection I can see that even though you're not very confident with some aspects of the game you are very willing to give things a try and you participate to the best of your ability. I can see that you are very influential to your team because when your participation increases so does your peers. It is very good that you are giving positive comments to your peers and shows that you are a good supporter to your team.

    2. Kia Ora Sophie, reading your blog and also being your coach I know that you aren't a very confident athlete yet but you do participate to the best of your abilities no matter what which is just awesome. This is very inspirational and motivational because when someone not very confident participation improves, so does everyone else in your team. Watching you grow from a anti-social person at the start to a very social person towards your team was amazing to witness. Can't wait to see more from you Sophie.

  11. During this lesson I demonstrated assertiveness and feedback and feed-forward with Jayden. I had to communicate directly and honestly to encourage Jayden to get over his embarrassment and his “giving up” attitude, so he could practice how to spike and the foot movement within that process. I did this by reflecting on watching Jayden, giving him feedback about using your arms to get more thrust in a spike, adding more steps to his run-up. I made sure to feedforward an example of this is telling Jayden he has a good controlled run-up and next time you could use your arms for more thrust to get a higher jump. It’s fine to not get it at first but it doesn’t mean he should give up so as his coach I confidently made sure I’d help him feel comfortable and confident he’d succeed. Jayden already knew he could make mistakes in front of me without my judgement but instead my encouragement,FB,FF and assertiveness. After observing and helping Jayden practice the run up and foot work he didn’t seem as scared as before, he was being supported by Hemi,Ethan,Razor and myself which made him continue to perfect each step to maintain a run-up fitted for himself.

  12. I demonstrated communication with Ethan. I organized the lesson that day. When it was time to do a game against the other team I talked to Ethan, the team's assistant manager and asked him if his team was ready for the game. I told him to inform his coaches and get the team ready on the court. I informed my coaches as well. This communication was effective as we successfully organized a game.

My communication with Ethan would have had a positive impact on the two teams as the games are overall enjoyed, this would have developed positive team culture and given the teams opportunities to show interpersonal skills.

    1. Hi Olivia. Your reflection clearly demonstrates how you have taken on the role of manager/assistant manager for your team- you have described how effective communication affected the two teams as a whole, and recognised that it influenced the development of positive culture between the groups; testing different skills in a game environment and allowing individuals to showcase different interpersonal skills. It's really cool to see you becoming more confident, both as a manager, and as an integral part of your team.

Good job.

  13. I encourage Hane today. Hane is an introvert and speaks little to nothing. However just because he is quiet doesn't mean he doesnt get the work. Hane is a quiet worker who is improving at his own pace and is slowly getting better at Volleyball. His settings skills are improving and he is now onto perfecting his timing. I supported Hane to keep trying and keep improving regardless of what people think of him, especially on the court and I was very proud that he started to involve himself in a game. I could see that the more encouragement his teammates gave, the more he felt motivated and I think that's what made him want to be involved. This also relates to support because I supported him by being his cheer buddy for the day praising him, encouraging him and helping him put a smile on his face.

My encouragement and support gave Hane a sense of motivation to want to be involved and want to be included. He opened up more and even made some good spikes on the other team during our game. I think with more encouragement and support from myself and others in the team Hane will slowly intergrade into a more open and confident person. Understanding that he will grow from his mistakes and not feel guilty about them.

  15. I demonstrated this IP skill with my partner Ethan as I gave him feedback and feedback. As his partner it was my job to correct him to help him improve. Something I gave him feedback on was ‘if the ball is too high you don't need to receive it, instead move your arms into the setting position and set it’. Something he did well was his receiving. He kept his forearms straight and didn't move to the ball with his arms already in the position, instead he moved his feet in his low stance then got into the receiving position. I also demonstrated my skills with Jayden and Sophie. I gave FB to Jayden on how well he did during our warm ups as he consistently did good sets and put a good amount of effort getting under the ball. I gave him advice on his stance so he could have more control over the ball when he receives and sets. I gave FF to Sophie on how she could instead set the ball instead of receiving if it was high enough for him to move under it. I also taught her the run up and foot work on how to spike, giving her FF on how she needs to improve.
The impact of my demonstration of IP skills on Ethan was he was able to move from the receiving position to the setting position when the ball was too high to receive. This will allow him to know for future reference when we do our pepper warm ups again and for situations during games. The positive impact my demonstration of IP skills had on Jayden was he was able to improve on his stance to allow him to control the ball more whilst passing. He also learnt what his strengths were allowing him to focus on the things he needs to improve on. The impact my demonstration of IP skills had on Sophie was she now had an outline on the footwork to spike. I taught her how to run up and to bring her arms back to build momentum into her jump.

    1. Kia Ora Aisha. It is great to see that your IP skill didn't affect one person but affected a few. Through your reflection I can see that you are the type of person to be willing to help anyone with anything without question. Your FB followed up with FF which is another very good thing especially to keep your peers spirits up. Keep doing what your doing, as you're setting a wonderful example of leadership for your team :))

    2. Kia Ora Aisha, your effective demonstration of giving F/B and F/F not only helped me improve but it helped your other teammates. You are able to confidently help anyone and everyone. By being one of the many skilful players in volleyball, your peers are able to look up to you and feel encouraged to be as good or even better than you. Your positivity impacted the peers you worked with majorly as after they had worked with you they had improved a lot and built in skill and confidence.

  16. I gave Aisha feedback on everything she was doing well, such as her foot movements, great receives etc. I gave FF on her performance by explaining to her to receive the ball if it's too low and to also try and dig for the ball.

The impact my demonstration had on my partner Aisha was that I gave her feedback and feedforward and vice versa. We commented on each other's performance and we allowed each other to try to make changes on our different techniques, this allowed us to learn together as a pair and it impacted us both. The impact it had on my team was that we had a positive environment to work in.

  17. IP Skill(s) I demonstrated was/were receiving feed-back and feedforward. I am still learning how to play volleyball, and the basics involved (setting, bumping, etc), and so much of my improvement revolves around my acceptance of feed-back and feed-forward. I felt I demonstrated this when I worked with Hemi, who was coaching me on the basics of volleyball. Drills we conducted included: set to self, set to partner, and pepper.
The impact my demonstration of IP skill(s) had on them (and others) was: as a team, whilst self improvement is the main goal, our success in a game environment is also important as it illustrates how our team improves over time. I feel like the demonstration of my ability to receive feed-back and feed-forward impacted the team and I was able to be a more active player on the court. This affected the team in the sense that I am now able to participate more, and use my knowledge to help others improve their own skills, putting less stress on the coaches. The effect this had on others was that we could all develop skills faster because we are now able to peer-coach one another in the skills we have learnt.

  18. I demonstrated my IP skill(s) with my whole team because when demonstrating the foot work or run up Ethan and razor got it straight away and I showed great support and encouragement by giving well deserved comments and gestures like clapping and high fiving them for getting the skill down in a little amount of time. I also displayed effective communication because working with these three they were showing me that they were focused and ready to learn new skills and managed to get the run up within a few minutes as my coaching was clear and decisive.

The impact my demonstration of IP skill(s) had on them was the more I communicated, the better they improved communication and active listening, which had a positive impact on the team. Whenever I gave feedback, I could see them actively improving and correcting their mistakes. We also realized that they got out of their shell and became more involved in the game, which helped us reach our team's goals and build a positive environment for our team.

  19. The first time that I demonstrated this IP skill was when we were in pairs warming up. Lilly and I were doing the drill/warm up called pepper which consists of a spike, receive/forearm pass, and a set, and then it gets repeated. I noticed that Lilly had mucked up her sets a couple of times so I observed a bit and pointed out to her that her hands were just that little too far away from each other while in the diamond formation above her head. So I was able to help her with that and it showed because she improved with her setting, just with that one piece of FF.
When Hemi took Razor, Jaden and I off to work on our spike run up, I really tried to take in as much as Hemi was saying because I know that he knows what he's talking about, and I applied as much of it as I could into my performance, and I was able to do this because I was able to really listen to Hemi’s FB and FF.

I think the impact that it had on Hemi was the pure fact of knowing that he is able to successfully coach someone and it makes him want to try coaching other people, even if it had different outcomes. The reason that this is is because I was able to positively receive feedback/feedforward and it made him feel acknowledged.

  20. Today I was working with Ryan and Hane perfecting their footwork and arm swing when going to spike. As a coach I watched their form when going to spike then point out what they have to improve on and also what they have also done well so they knew they could focus on the skills they were not strong in.

The impact my demonstration of FB/FF had on them was giving them more confidence in spiking. When I would give Hane and Ryan Feed forward they had more confidence in spiking because of the improvement I pointed out during the lesson. Telling them they had the skills to become great spikers made them want to keep on improving and keep spiking.

I encouraged him to try again after failing before and do it again. I gave him feedback on his setting skills which was good, but I gave him feedforward for moving to the ball more quickly.

I constantly encouraged and supported him when needed by telling him he can do it after hearing him say he can’t do it. After seeing him improve quickly I knew that I efficiently demonstrated my IP skills towards him because of how I encouraged and supported him.
